Jingyue Lake has a beautiful and touching story.
According to legend, the Queen Mother of the West in heaven had seven daughters, each more beautiful than the last. However, the most beautiful and kind-hearted among them was her youngest daughter, the Seventh Fairy.
One year, seven sisters went to the human world to play together. They were captivated by the green mountains and clear waters of the human world. Some picked wildflowers, while others bathed in the swimming pool.At this time, the Seventh Fairy saw a young man carrying a broken umbrella, wiping away tears as he walked, with a bitter and sorrowful expression on his face. She then transformed into a village girl and went to meet the young man to see what was on his mind.
It turned out that the young man was Dong Yong.Dong Yong was a poor scholar who had been living with his elder brother. However, his sister-in-law was malicious and forced him to separate from his brother. She gave him nothing but an old yellow cow and a dilapidated thatched cottage.Dong Yong lived with the old cow every day.But now, there was a severe drought, and they didn't even have seeds for planting.Tears streaming down his face,Dong Yong wanted to borrow some seeds from his brother's house, but he was afraid that his sister-in-law would refuse. With a worried expression,he walked forward.
At that moment, the village girl blocked his path and bumped into him.The village girl said,"You're just going your own way,how could you bump into someone else?"Dong Yong looked up and saw a beautiful young girl.He blushed with embarrassment and apologized profusely. However, the village girl not only refused to forgive him but also insisted on living with him.Dong Yong couldn't believe his own ears and tried to decline in various ways, saying that he was poor and his family was so poor that they didn't have a single grain of food. But unexpectedly, the village girl said,"If you don't have food, can I drink the northwestern wind with you?"Dong Yong said,"I'm so poor that I don't even have a good dress!"The village girl said,"Then can I wear my old clothes, sew them up and patch them?"Dong Yong was speechless and had no choice but to lead the village girl back home. When the six sisters saw that their seventh sister was so devoted to the rural life on earth and willing to live with Dong Yong, they reluctantly bid farewell to their sister and returned to heaven. When the Queen Mother of the West heard this, she was very angry, but the Seventh Fairy was also her own flesh and blood. She thought it best to wait for her to change her mind. However, after waiting for many days, she didn't see her daughter return,so she decided to send heavenly soldiers and generals to capture the Seventh Fairy.
That day,the sky suddenly became overcast with dark clouds, followed by thunder and lightning. The sky reverberated with loud booms, and a gust of wind swept the Seven Fairies into the sky.The Seven Fairies gazed at the small house where they had lived for a time, unable to hold back their tears. She cried out,"Dong Lang,on the day when spring arrives and flowers bloom next year, let us exchange our vows under the locust tree..."With those words, she was escorted away by the heavenly soldiers and generals.
Two crystal-clear tears falling from her eyes sprinkled onto the earth of the mortal world, one in the south and one in the north;the one in the south turned into Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan, while the one in the north turned into Jingyue Lake in Lvjia Bay,Changchun;the waters of these two lakes, one representing the sun and the other the moon, have become famous scenic spots on earth, narrating the deep emotional ties between heaven and earth.
This is just a beautiful legend. In fact,Jingyue Lake was formed in 1934 when the Japanese invaders occupied the Northeast. To supply drinking water for the city, they relocated the residents living in the low-lying areas and diverted the surrounding streams to the center, forming today's lake, known as the water source.
"Jingyue"refers to the forest and air here, which can make the already crystal-clear bright moon even clearer. It implies that the natural environment here is incomparably elegant and unique.
